Q: What are the educational goals of the Recycle My Cell Phone campaign?
This campaign seeks to educate the public about issues related to natural resource protection, impacts of mining the metals found in cell phones, the impacts of their waste, and the benefits of recycling and re-use of cell phones in a hands-on fashion.
Q: What are the benefits of the Recycle My Cell Phone campaign to schools and non-profit organizations?
The campaign is an excellent way to raise funds for your school or organization because on average you earn $1 to $2 for each phone collected. The campaign is also a great way to educate students or your target audience about the benefits of recycling, the impacts of toxic waste, and natural resource protection.
Q: How much money can my school or organization raise?
Phones that can be refurbished for resale will earn your school on average about $1 to $2 per phone, some smaller newer models with certain features can yield as much as $10, but obsolete models have no monetary value, it all depends on the type of phones collected. However, we want to recycle ALL phones and encourage you to collect as many as possible in order to reach our goal of one million phones!
Q: Are there any obligations or is there a timeframe in which cell phones must be collected?
You can start or stop your collection at any time. Just register as a partner in the campaign and we will provide you with all the materials you need to get started! It's fun, easy and free! Of course the more cell phones you collect, the more funds you raise for your cause.
Q: What sort of materials are available to help promote the campaign?
We will provide you with a campaign kit that includes the following:.
- Card board receptacle boxes for drop off locations at your school, church, PTA meetings, office, etc.
- Small print advertisements for placement in your newsletter, local weeklies, etc.
- Sample emails to send out to teachers, PTA, parents, staff, members, etc.
- Posters for promoting the campaign.
And a member of the EARTHWORKS staff will be assigned
to your organization to help you with any questions
that you might have.
Q: How can my organization/school start collecting phones?
Sign up using the online form to become
a partner. Within 48 hours a member of
the EARTHWORKS team will contact you to customize an
organizing kit for you. Ultimately, you determine the
best way to collect phones for your organization, but
we are here to help you!
